Clive Lloyd called Virat Kohli “my type of player” and said he would have enjoyed batting alongside him. The two-time World Cup winning captain is the latest West Indies legend to publicly praise Kohli, joining Viv Richards and the late Sir Garfield Sobers in a thread of recognition that now stretches across three decades of Caribbean cricket.

Richards was the first of the three to single Kohli out. In 2013, when Kohli was 24 and still establishing himself, Richards told PTI that he saw his own temperament in the young Indian batter.

Sir Garfield Sobers met Kohli and the Indian squad during their 2023 tour of the West Indies in Barbados. In an interview with Revsportz around that visit, Sobers gave a measured but revealing assessment of Kohli’s game.
