Yashasvi Jaiswal did not stay quiet. Hours after Harsha Bhogle released a Cricbuzz video questioning his conduct during the Asitha Fernando confrontation, Jaiswal went straight to the comments section and responded.
“If you don’t know what he said then please don’t make your judgment. If anyone crosses the line we need to let them know this India will fight and reply.”

The comment was directed at Bhogle’s assessment of the Day 1 incident during the second Test at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club. Jaiswal’s claim is direct: there is context the cameras did not capture, and judgment without that context is not fair.
What cameras captured tells only part of the story. What was said between the two players in that moment has not been made public.
Bhogle’s criticism came through a Cricbuzz Instagram reel titled “Did Jaiswal cross the line?” He acknowledged Fernando may have said something inappropriate, but his verdict was clear.
“All I want to say to Jaiswal is… yes, maybe what was said should not have been said. But as you give, so you must take. The easiest thing is just to walk away.”

The incident happened in the 17th over. Jaiswal had scored 45 off 53 balls, hitting three consecutive boundaries off Fernando before being bowled on the final delivery. A nip-backer darted in, caught the inside edge, and hit the stumps.
Fernando celebrated with an animated send-off. Jaiswal walked toward the pavilion, then turned back. The confrontation between Jaiswal and Fernando escalated quickly. Jaiswal’s helmet made contact with Fernando’s forehead. Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva stepped in to separate them.

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed something was said. “I think the bowler must have made some comment, and it was probably said in the heat of the moment. Obviously, I don’t think Jaiswal should have gone that close, but these things happen in the heat of the moment.”
The ICC charged both players under Article 2.12 for inappropriate physical contact. Both were fined 25% of their match fees and received one demerit point each. Match referee Andy Pycroft proposed the sanctions. Both players admitted the offences. No formal hearing was needed.
Neither player had a previous offence in the preceding 24 months.

Bhogle’s advice is not wrong. It is incomplete. It assumes the decision to turn back is rational. In that moment, it almost never is.
