The WPL 2027 retained players list is out. All five franchises named their squads on September 28, the BCCI deadline, ahead of the fifth season of the Women’s Premier League.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept 13 players, with Ellyse Perry back after missing their 2026 title run. Grace Harris made way. UP Warriorz let go of Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon and Amy Jones. The remaining spots will be filled at the auction on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi.
Perry’s return looks like a straight gain for Smriti Mandhana’s side. Inside a dressing room, it is also a reminder that winning a title does not protect your place.

RCB kept the core that chased 204 to beat Delhi Capitals in the 2026 final, the highest successful chase in a WPL final. Harris and Linsey Smith were the only overseas players released. Head coach Malolan Rangarajan linked the Harris call directly to Perry.
“With Perry returning to our squad, it bolsters the team in all departments. She comes in as a batter and that got us thinking about how we could balance our squad.”

Mumbai Indians released wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini, who won the Asia Cup and Asian Games gold with India. Left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque also goes. MI missed the playoffs in 2026 and now have Luke Williams as head coach.
Delhi Capitals have reached the final in every WPL season. They kept captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma and five overseas players, but let go of opener Lizelle Lee and experienced off-spinner Sneh Rana.
UP Warriorz made the biggest changes. They have never reached a final and finished fifth in 2026 under Lanning. Dottin, Tryon and Amy Jones are gone, and the squad now rests on Deepti Sharma, Kranti Gaud and Pratika Rawal.
Gujarat Giants kept 15, the most of any team. England batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge is the headline release.
Each squad can hold a maximum of 18 players, with no more than six from overseas. RCB go to Kochi with Rs 1.15 crore in their purse. The season runs from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
The WPL “has established itself as a significant platform for the growth of the sport, bringing together leading players from India and around the world.”

Insider Read
Rangarajan’s key words were she comes in as a batter. Perry and Harris cover the same ground, and a squad cannot carry two overseas players for one job. The coach framed the call around balance, not form. Players fear that call more than a poor season, because no amount of runs fixes it.
That is why Rangarajan’s second message matters more than the first.
The 12 others retained have just watched a champion leave. Every one of them now knows the next role clash could be theirs.
