Monica Wright named Georgia Voll publicly on Instagram on July 13, 2026, posting a photograph of the 22-year-old Australian batter with the words: “This is who my wife cheated on me with.” The post ended eight months of silence around the breakdown of her marriage to Australia women’s vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner, and placed both Gardner and Voll at the centre of one of the most public controversies Australian women’s cricket has seen.
Wright had reposted a Daily Mail report about the marriage breakdown to her Stories moments before. She captioned it:
“Nah, this s— is too vague. I’ll tell you exactly what happened.”

She then posted the photograph of Voll. The allegations have not been confirmed by Gardner, Voll, or Cricket Australia. Neither player has made any public statement.
Gardner, 29, is one of the most decorated players in the history of Australian women’s cricket. She holds the best bowling figures in Women’s Tests: 8 for 66. She has won the Belinda Clark Award twice, given to Australia’s best international women’s player, in 2021-22 and 2023-24. She was appointed co-vice-captain alongside Tahlia McGrath under captain Sophie Molineux in January 2026. She played a central role in Australia winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on July 5, 2026, when the Southern Stars defeated England by 7 wickets at Lord’s to win a record seventh title.
Voll, 22, is from Toowoomba, Queensland, and plays for the Queensland Fire and the Sydney Thunder. She made her international debut in an ODI series against India at home, scoring a century in only her second match. She went on to make her T20I and Test debut during the 2025 Ashes. Wright named her publicly on July 13 with less than two years of international cricket behind her.
Wright is not a cricketer. She met Gardner on a dating app in 2020. The couple announced their engagement in April 2024 and married in April 2025 in a ceremony in the Blue Mountains, attended by members of the Australian women’s cricket squad. Wright had developed close friendships with several players during the five years she and Gardner were together.
The marriage began to unravel during Australia’s Women’s ODI World Cup campaign in India in 2025. Wright travelled to India during the tournament. Sources quoted in the Daily Mail described the atmosphere between the couple as “a little bit weird” and noted that Gardner “didn’t seem like herself” throughout that period. Back in Sydney, Gardner and Wright had a private conversation in which Gardner allegedly explained why things had changed.
A source told the Daily Mail the moment of departure was stark: Gardner left while Wright was out. When Wright returned, everything of Gardner’s was gone except their wedding rings, left in their cupboard.
The couple separated in November 2025. The split was not reported publicly at the time. Several Australian players remained in close contact with Wright after the separation. Gardner and Voll continued as teammates. Both were part of the squad that won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in July 2026, eight months after the separation and eight days before the story became public.
When the Daily Mail published its report on July 13, Wright moved immediately. She reposted the article to her Stories, then posted the photograph of Voll. Gardner subsequently deleted a wedding photograph from her Instagram account (@ashleigh_gardner97). Both Gardner and Voll have since turned off comments on their Instagram accounts. Wright has also turned off comments, unfollowed Gardner, and removed all photographs of her from her profile.

The vice-captain does not win matches. That is the captain’s and the players’ job. What the vice-captain actually does is hold the dressing room together. She is the bridge between the captain and the players, the person teammates go to before they feel they need to go to Sophie Molineux. She absorbs friction before it becomes the captain’s problem. Gardner cannot perform that function right now. She has become the problem. The players who stayed close to Wright after November and the players who did not are sitting on different sides of something unspoken, and the person who is supposed to manage that division is at the centre of it.
Voll’s situation is different but just as specific. She has less than two years of international cricket behind her and no way to respond to a public allegation made by someone she has no direct dispute with. In professional cricket dressing rooms, there is an unspoken responsibility that senior players carry: you protect the younger ones from exactly this kind of exposure. You use your standing to absorb the noise so the new player can concentrate on her cricket. The senior player in this situation is Gardner. That protection was not there for Voll when she needed it most. That is not a moral judgement. It is a cricket observation about how dressing rooms are supposed to function and what happens when they do not.

The part of this story that has gone entirely unexamined is the part that tells you most about professional cricket. Australia won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on July 5 with Gardner and Voll both in the squad, while the separation was eight months old and teammates knew. They did not win despite this situation. They won with it present. What professional cricket dressing rooms have, and what most outside commentary misses, is that the game forces people to function in a way no other team sport does to the same degree. You cannot lose your bowling line because of what is happening in the dressing room. You cannot be distracted at slip. The discipline that cricket demands at the highest level becomes, in moments of personal collapse, the thing that holds a group together when almost nothing else can. “Disarray” is the word from outside. The scoreboard is the word from inside.
When asked directly about the controversy, Cricket Australia’s head of communications gave a one-sentence answer.
“Yeah, no comment on that.”

In cricket administration, a “no comment” in situations involving players’ personal conduct is the standard response, not the suspicious one. It indicates that Cricket Australia will not enter a dispute involving private matters, unverified allegations, and two active players who have not themselves spoken. No investigation or disciplinary process has been reported. Gardner’s selection and vice-captaincy have not been affected at the time of publication. The allegations remain based solely on Wright’s Instagram posts and the Daily Mail’s reporting. Gardner and Voll have not responded publicly.
