The IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa in mid-December. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz the likely dates are December 14 to 16. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has put them at December 15 to 16.
“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December.”

It is a mini-auction, and the last player auction of the 2023-27 cycle. Teams will settle retentions and releases first, then bid only to fill specific gaps. It also sets up the league’s 20th edition.

The city is the headline. For a domestic player chasing an IPL contract, the dates matter more, because they fall in the busiest stretch of the domestic season.
Franchises told the BCCI that flying large delegations overseas for a mini-auction was difficult and expensive. The IPL Governing Council decided on September 15 to bring the auction back to India. The city was then picked on hotel capacity. December is wedding season, and the board needed five-star properties with more than 100 rooms.
“We have finalised Goa. The likely dates are December 15 to 16.”
Arun Dhumal, IPL chairman, as reported by Daily Jagran, September 2026

Goa is the first Indian host since Kochi.
| Auction for | Venue |
|---|---|
| IPL 2023 | Kochi |
| IPL 2024 | Dubai |
| IPL 2025 | Jeddah |
| IPL 2026 | Abu Dhabi |
| IPL 2027 | Goa |
One question is still open before bidding starts. The Governing Council discussed the Impact Player rule but did not decide. Most franchises oppose keeping it long term, while some want one more season because their squads were built around it. Another meeting is expected, and the ruling will shape how teams spend in Goa.

| Event | Dates |
|---|---|
| Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy knockouts | November 30 to December 6 |
| IPL 2027 auction (likely) | December 14 to 16 (Saikia) / 15 to 16 (Dhumal) |
| Vijay Hazare Trophy league | December 14 to 29 |
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy knockouts end on December 6, about a week before the hammer. For an uncapped player, that last knockout innings is the final audition, and scouts carry the most recent performance into the room. Everyone in a domestic dressing room knows it. In that last week, plenty of players are batting for the auction as much as the trophy.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy starts on December 14, the same week the auction opens. Some players will be playing Vijay Hazare games while their names are being called in Goa. You cannot switch that off. The phone stays in the kit bag, the mind does not, and you still have to bat properly.
