Beth Mooney is not ruling out playing for Australia at a home Olympics in Brisbane in 2032, when she will be 38. The wicketkeeper-batter, now 32, spoke in Brisbane ahead of her 100th ODI, against Bangladesh at Allan Border Field.
Her batting will not decide whether she gets there. The gloves she took over this year will.
“Certainly the Olympics is definitely an enticing one for players to hang around a bit longer. We’re obviously seeing the game a bit more modern and are remunerated well, so it’s probably more likely people will start retiring a bit later. Hopefully I’m still around [in 2032], but that’s a long way away.”

Mooney said a packed calendar makes it hard to walk away at any point. Her stated priority is nearer: the 2029 ODI World Cup, after Australia’s semi-final loss to India last year.
Her form backs the ambition. She scored 238 runs in seven innings as Australia won the 2026 T20 World Cup, including an unbeaten 64 in the final against England. She has also kept wicket since the start of the year, following Alyssa Healy’s retirement.

Batting at 38 is the easy part. Timing fades slowly, and a batter who reads length as well as Mooney can stay sharp for years. Keeping is different. Every ball is a squat and a spring, 120 times in a T20 innings, and the knees, hips and lower back pay long before the hands go.
Then she has to walk out and open. For most of her career, Healy kept and Mooney batted as a specialist. Now she carries both jobs. If Mooney reaches 2032, the realistic version is Mooney the opener with someone else behind the stumps. The decision that matters is when she hands back the gloves, not when she stops batting.
Is Cricket Confirmed for Brisbane 2032?
No. Cricket returns at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, but it has not been formally confirmed for Brisbane. The IOC sets the initial programme, and if cricket is included, Queensland’s 2032 Delivery Plan places it in the Mackay-Whitsunday region.
Her confirmed fixtures are closer: the 100th ODI today, then a three-match T20I series against New Zealand from October 18.
