England beat India by 125 runs in the third T20I at Trent Bridge on July 7, handing India the biggest defeat in their T20I history by runs.
India were bowled out for 76 chasing 202. It is the largest margin of defeat India have ever suffered in a T20 international.

England built their score through Phil Salt, who hit 70 off 44 balls at the top of the order. Jos Buttler added 36 off 21 before Prince Yadav clean bowled him. Harry Brook fell for 16, also to Prince Yadav, off a mistimed pull caught at deep mid-wicket. Harshit Rana dismissed both Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton off consecutive deliveries to pull India back into the bowling spell. But Sam Curran came in at the end and hit 41 not out off 24 balls to push England past 200. They finished on 201/7.
India’s chase fell apart in the powerplay. Five wickets went down before the sixth over was complete. Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue each took three wickets and gave the Indian batters no time to settle. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the top scorer with 13. Four others fell for single figures. India were all out for 76.
That total left England winners by 125 runs. Their previous worst T20I defeat was 80 runs, against New Zealand in Wellington in February 2019, and that record had stood for seven years. This surpasses it by 45 runs.
England are 2-0 up in the five-match series with two games left. India need to win both just to level. This follows the four-wicket loss in Manchester in the second T20I, where Jacob Bethell’s 76 not out off 46 balls turned the game on its head.
Shreyas Iyer is now winless in four T20I matches as captain, with losses to Ireland twice and England twice. The absence of Hardik Pandya and Nitish Reddy through injury has hurt India’s balance throughout the tour. Selection questions that began earlier in the squad building process, including the calls around Ashwin and Sanju Samson, continue to follow this team as it searches for answers.
The series continues with the fourth T20I.
