Harry Brook has scored the fastest double century in men’s ODI history. The England captain reached 200 in 114 balls against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on 22 October 2026 and finished on 202 off 116 balls.

He broke Shubman Gill’s record of 117 balls, set against West Indies in Guwahati only three weeks earlier. It is also the first ODI double century by an England batter.

Brook hit 21 fours and 10 sixes in the third match of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series. He was caught off the last ball of the innings as England posted 429/4.

The 39-ball second hundred will fill the highlights. What made it possible was the slower first hundred, and how a set batter turns the final overs into a different game.

Brook walked in at No. 4 with England 85/2 in the 16th over, after Sri Lanka chose to field. He added 159 with Joe Root for the third wicket and 185 with Will Jacks for the fourth.

Milestone Balls
50 42
100 75
150 97
200 114

His first hundred took 75 balls. His second took 39, and he went from 150 to 200 in 17.

At 85/2, a No. 4 has one job: make sure there is no third wicket. Fifty off 42 and a hundred off 75 is a batter hitting the bad ball and running hard for the rest, while learning the pace of every bowler he will face later.

That work pays off in the last 15 overs. A set batter picks length early, so full balls get driven, short balls get pulled, and slower balls get waited on. No field can guard the rope and the gaps at the same time. That is how 150 becomes 200 in 17 balls. The record was built in the 75 balls nobody will replay.

Where Brook’s 202 Sits in ODI History

Player Balls Opponent Ground Year
Harry Brook 114 Sri Lanka Rawalpindi 2026
Shubman Gill 117 West Indies Guwahati 2026
Ishan Kishan 126 Bangladesh Chattogram 2022
Glenn Maxwell 128 Afghanistan Mumbai 2023
Pathum Nissanka 136 Afghanistan Pallekele 2024

Brook’s 202 is now England’s highest individual ODI score, passing Ben Stokes’s 182 against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023. He is only the second non-opener to score an ODI double century, after Glenn Maxwell.

He is also the second player after Chris Gayle with a Test triple century, an ODI double century and a T20I century. All four of his ODI centuries have come as England captain, level with Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss and behind Eoin Morgan’s nine.

England’s 429/4 is the highest ODI total ever made in Pakistan and the most Sri Lanka have ever conceded. Both sides had lost their opening games to Pakistan, and Sri Lanka needed 430 for their first win of the series.
