Bhuvneshwar Kumar has revealed that Virat Kohli actively shares technical observations about opposition batsmen during matches at RCB, and that this input has directly helped him take wickets. Speaking via RCB, Bhuvneshwar explained how Kohli contributes to his bowling during live match situations.
“Virat Kohli comes and tells from a technical point of view that this Batsman does this, and that actually worked. So this is what experience brings, and friendship as well.”

This is not vague praise between teammates. Bhuvneshwar backed it up with a specific example from IPL 2026. During RCB’s match against Gujarat Titans, Jos Buttler was at the crease and Bhuvneshwar was struggling to create chances in his fourth over.
“Buttler was shuffling and playing towards the leg side because there was only one fielder there. Virat [Kohli] came and said, ‘He’s shuffling, slip in a yorker’ and I did.”

Buttler was bowled round his legs. Kohli spotted what the batsman was doing, identified the gap in his movement, and told Bhuvneshwar exactly what to bowl. The wicket came from a batter’s observation, not a bowler’s instinct. Kohli’s batting brain directly produced a bowling breakthrough for RCB.

“What is Bhuvi doing? He is not bowling banana inswingers, banana outswingers. He is bowling at a length that tells the guys that I am good enough to hit the length every time. Bhuvneshwar finished IPL 2026 with 28 wickets in 16 matches, the second highest in the tournament behind Kagiso Rabada. Kohli scored 675 runs in 16 innings. Together, they anchored RCB to a second consecutive IPL title.
