Prashant Veer’s Eliminator Blueprint: 58*(28), 2 Wickets, 1-Run Win for Noida Kings

Prashant Veer smashed 27 runs off the final over to finish unbeaten on 58 off 28 balls in the UPT20 2026 Eliminator. His Noida Kings posted 154/6 and defended it by one run against two-time defending champions Kashi Rudras at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on September 4.

Noida Kings were 49/4 in eight overs. Their top order had folded against Kashi’s bowling, and the knockout was slipping away. Veer, batting through the collapse, found support from Ravi Singh (31) to steady the innings. After 18 overs, Noida still sat at 107/6.

Then Veer changed the game. He and Shiva Singh pulled 20 runs from the penultimate over bowled by Atal Bihari Vipin Rai. In the final over, Veer hit 6, 6, 4, 4 to bring up his fifty and push the total to 154. He finished with 5 fours, 4 sixes, and 2 wickets with the ball. Player of the Match for the complete performance.

“We were very confident that there was still a chance for us.”

That confidence showed in his shot selection. Veer read the conditions. The ball was not gripping, the surface was slightly wet, and the bowler was delivering pace onto the bat. He backed himself to clear the boundary rather than scramble for singles.

Defending 154, Noida Kings needed something special. They got it from Kartik Siddhu in the 19th over. Kashi Rudras needed 17 off 12 balls with wickets in hand. Siddhu conceded 3 runs and took a hat-trick, removing three batters in consecutive deliveries. The match swung entirely.

Kashi needed 14 off the final over. Pacer Vansh held his nerve. Kashi Rudras finished at 153, one run short. The defending champions were eliminated.

Veer’s captaincy call to trust Siddhu at that moment was the decision that won the game. He did not bowl himself. He backed a teammate in the highest pressure over of the tournament.

What Rs 14.2 Crore Looks Like Outside the IPL

Chennai Super Kings bought Veer for Rs 14.2 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, the highest price ever for an uncapped Indian player. His base price was Rs 30 lakh. Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad also bid. CSK saw him as Ravindra Jadeja’s long-term successor after trading Jadeja to Rajasthan.

His IPL 2026 numbers told a mixed story. Six matches. 90 runs at a strike rate of 134.33, with a highest score of 43. But CSK bowled him just 2 overs all season, taking no wickets at an economy of 12.50. The franchise paid for an all-rounder and used him as a lower-order batter.

In the UP T20 League, Veer does everything. He bats through collapses, bowls his full quota, captains the side, and finishes games. The gap between his IPL role and his domestic role is where the real picture sits. CSK bought range. They have only used a fraction of it.

Veer is 20 years old. Born in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. His father is a Shiksha Mitra, a primary schoolteacher. His grandfather’s LIC pension funded his cricket through childhood. When his grandfather died in 2020, the family lost its main income. Veer nearly quit the game. Five years later, he walked into the IPL auction at a base price of Rs 30 lakh and walked out at Rs 14.2 crore.

Insider Read

Captaining a knockout at 20 is not the same as batting in one. The batter’s job is to react. The captain’s job is to think two overs ahead while the current one is falling apart. When Noida Kings were 49/4, Veer had to hold both roles at once: stay at the crease, keep his head still, and still set fields, rotate bowlers, and manage a dressing room of seniors watching their season collapse. Most 20-year-olds at this level are passengers on the field. Veer ran the game.

The moment that defined his captaincy was not the final over with the bat. It was bowling Kartik Siddhu in the 19th over. At that stage, the safe option is your most experienced bowler. Veer backed a younger teammate to deliver under the highest pressure of the season. Siddhu took a hat-trick. That decision does not come from a script. It comes from someone who has watched his bowlers, trusts his reads, and does not hide behind seniority when the game is on the line.
